2020 point guard Tyler Beard announced his intention to attend college at Georgetown. Beard is a 6’2″ play maker who has a lot of work to do in his game but the tools are there to be able to compete in the Big East Conference. He slashes to the basket well and is very capable of acting as the lead guard on the break, including finishing around the basket. His outside shooting, and efficiency in general, is the area that needs the most improvement if he wants to earn playing time at the college level. If he is able to score the ball more efficiently along with how he can find open teammates, then he should be able to make an impact.
Beard is ranked #146 by Rivals, #198 by 247 Sports, and ESPN does not have him ranked in the class of 2020. He chose the Hoyas over offers from Maryland, California, Texas A&M, and Florida Atlantic. Competing for the Brad Beal Elite in the EYBL he averaged 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists in 21.9 minutes per game. Beard is not considered a top tier draft prospect at this time, but he is expected to compete for playing time early in college.
