UCLA freshman Shareef O’Neal, the son of Hall of Fame member Shaquille O’Neal, has announced his intention to transfer from UCLA. The 6’9″ forward was a four star recruit in the class of 2019 before having heart surgery and missing his entire freshman season.

Back on the court this season he did not have a major role for the Bruins averaging 2.2 points, and 2.9 rebounds in 10.2 minutes per game. While he has not had the impact that many had predicted coming out of high school, the talent is still there and it is certainly possible that he can have a resurgence in a new environment. He has a versatile offensive game where he can score both inside and out, but he will need to continue to add weight in the off season. If his recruitment in high school was any indication of where he could land going forward then expect west coast schools to play a major factor, although he should have plenty of options to choose from.
