Nimari Burnett is headed to Texas Tech after announcing his intentions to join the 2020 recruiting class for the Red Raiders. He is highest ranked recruit to ever commit to the program which in itself is another sign that the school is near the top of the college basketball pecking order. Burnett can play at point guard or shooting guard, and this versatility will fit in well with the amount of talent heading to Lubbock in recent history. His outside shot needs to become more efficient and his play making ability is as good as just about any other player in the class meaning there is a good chance he will compete for a starting spot as a freshman. He has length and a strong basketball I.Q. that allow him to score in multiple different ways. At 6’3″ he projects more as a lead guard going forward being able to effect the game as a passer as well as his ability to put the ball in the basket.
His numbers on the EYBL circuit are impressive at 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 31.4 minutes per game. The final four schools in his recruitment were Texas Tech, Oregon, Alabama, and Michigan. Burnett is ranked #22 by Rivals, #28 by 247 Sports, and #19 by ESPN in the class of 2020.
