Ole Miss picked up a commitment from 2020 shooting guard Matthew Murrell. He chose the Rebels over other offers from Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Florida and many more. His athleticism is the strongest part of his game being able to effect the game on both ends of the floor. He is most effective in the open court slashing to the basket or running the floor where he has good speed. As a competitor he has shown a high motor and he has shown an ability for defending on the wing. Outside shooting is the area he will need to work on, and if he can be a lock down defender to go with his offensive abilities he should have no problem seeing early minutes.
Murrell is ranked #45 by Rivals, #43 by 247Sports, and #48 by ESPN. This puts him in the range of players that are expected to make an impact as a freshman, but also could play their way into a one and done situation. Murrell has a high ceiling that would exceed his rankings so if he continues to improve he could have a professional career. He is the first commitment in the class of 2020 for the Rebels and getting a player that could be a scoring threat early in his career is a good start.
