Breaking down the latest news around college basketball, recruiting, and the NBA

Khavon Moore’s waiver to play immediately at Clemson has been approved. Moore is coming over from Texas Tech after a freshman season that saw him play 2 minutes the entire season due to injuries and a talented backcourt ahead of him. Prior to college Moore was ranked #50 by Rivals, #64 by 247 Sports, and #43 by ESPN in the class of 2018.

UCONN freshman Richie Springs has been declared academically ineligible by the NCAA. Springs was ranked #161 by 247 Sports while Rivals and ESPN had him as an unranked three star in the class of 2019 after reclassifying from the 2020 class. He will now redshirt this season while continuing to practice with the team.

As expected JJ Traynor committed to Louisville. Traynor is a 6’8″ power forward with good length who will need to add strength at just 195 pounds, but he runs the floor well and has potential to expand his game. He is ranked #88 by Rivals, #77 by 247 Sports, and ESPN does not have him ranked in the class of 2020.

2020 shooting guard Richie Saunders gave his commitment to BYU. At 6’5″ he has solid size for playing the two but he also can slide over and give the team minutes at small forward if they want to go small. He shoots the ball at a high level with plenty of range, being especially comfortable creating a shot with the ball in his hands. Athletically he is not going to stand up but he should not have a problem being able to compete with the level of athleticism on the college level. Saunders is ranked #146 by 247 Sports and Rivals has him as an unranked three star.

Stephen Curry exited the Warriors game against the Suns with a broken hand. The start of the 2019-2020 has been terrible for Golden State and obviously this news just makes that much worse. Curry has been struggling to shoot the ball this season after the loss of Kevin Durant to free agency and Klay Thompson to injury, and with this latest injury the talk about the team needing to tank has already started. No timetable has been released as far as when he could return to the court considering the teams medical staff is just getting into how bad the injury is.

The Rockets and the Wizards put up a combined 317 points in a win for Houston. Russel Westbrook had another triple double and James Harden finished with 59 points while Bradley Beal scored 46 in the loss.

Cleveland has reportedly decided they will not be picking up the fourth year option of Ante Zizic. He averaged 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per game last but is currently sitting out due to plantar fasciitis.

Kyle Kuzma is set to return to the Lakers in their game this Friday. Getting Kuzma back will be big for the team providing not only another scoring option for the Los Angeles but a player that can guard multiple positions on the wing.

Karl Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid were both ejected for getting into what the league is calling a fight, but we will call it an altercation considering no punches appeared to be thrown. The game was out of hand at that point with Minnesota down 20 points, so frustration definitely played a role in the case of Towns. After the game the two players then took to social media to go back and forth.
